Ishmael Beah

After his family was killed in the civil war, Beah was recruited as a child soldier at the age of 13. With the help of UNICEF, he found his way back to civilian life and studied in the United States. His autobiographical account A Long Way Gone – Memoirs of a Boy Soldier (2007) is an international bestseller. He is now a UNICEF ambassador. Beah’s third book Little Family was published in 2020.
